The "Senkgarten" (sunken garden) on the Wartburg-castle
This area, at the foot of the south tower of the Wartburg-castle, was probably
used as orchard and storage yard. This little situation with the steep
slope on the north side provided an ideal opportunity, a small garden, as
it was usual in the time of courtly love , with lawn benches, beds with a simple wooden
frame and a water tank in the middle. Assisting were pictures and engravings
from the 14th century. The beds in the middle were ordered after diseases as
in a pharmacist garden.
